Rules & Regulations

The rules and regulations of the Kuching Ultra is designed to safeguard the safety of all runners, volunteers and organizers as well as to ensure the event runs as smoothly as possible during and after the race day with minimal disruptions. It is the runners’ responsibilities to read and understand the set of rules listed below. Failure to adhere to these rules may result in the disqualification (DQ) of the runner.

Cut-off times: Cut-off times will be strictly enforced throughout the race. Runners MUST check out from a check point (CP)/ water station before the designated cut-off time of the station. All decisions by the official Supervisor is final non-negotiable. Please refer to the cut-off time in the table below.

Dropping out of the race: If the runner is unable to complete the race for whatever reason, the runner should try to stop at the nearer water station, inform the official supervisor and surrender his/her Bib or timing chip to the volunteers. In extreme cases such as an accident or life threatening injury, the runner should stop immediately and attempt to call the emergency number to inform the organizers of their current situation.

  •  Runners are classified as the following
  • Any runner who dropped out of the race: Did Not Finish (DNF)
  • Any runner who missed the cut-off of a water station: Did Not Finish (DNF)
  • Any runner who registered and not start the race: Did Not Start (DNS)

No short-cutting: All runners must follow the marked path along the race course without taking any shortcuts (unless instructed by the volunteers) or using any mode of transport. Any runners caught violating this rule by taking a shortcut or hopping on a vehicle will be DISQUALIFIED (DQ).

No pacers allowed: Any runner without an officially issued race bib is considered as an ‘unofficial pacer’. Strictly no ‘unofficial pacers’ are allowed throughout the entire race.

No unauthorized aid stations: To ensure race fairness to all runners, no unauthorized aid stations or aid vehicles should be setup by anyone throughout the race course. We welcome all supporters to setup their aid stations at all the designated check point/water stations.

Do not litter:  Kindly carry your trash and dispose them at the bins provided at each check point/ water station.

Road use and crossing: There would be vehicles using the same road as you during the race. Please be courteous to the other vehicles and let them pass through before continuing your journey. Always run on the shoulder on the road and BECAREFUL of fast approaching vehicles. You are responsible for your own sell-being on the race course.

Visibility in the dark: All runners remaining on the race course at night (22:00hrs – 06:00hrs) must wear their reflective vests, blinkers and headlamp at all times. Any runners caught not abiding by these rules will be DISQUALIFIED (DQ) immediately from the race. This is for runner safety.

Instructions from volunteers: At certain points of the race, volunteers may redirect you from the race course for safe purposes.

Mandatory Items: All runners must have the 6 mandatory items at all-time throughout the race. There will be random spot checks at various locations. Any runners caught not abiding to these rules will be DISQUALIFIED (DQ) immediately from the race.

  6. Emergency Blankets

 

Medical Assistance: In order to ensure race safety, race command center will prepare and arrange for rescue and medical assistance during the race.

Medical staff and marshals have the authority to stop a racer from continuing the race. This will be done by taking off the racer’s bib.

Prohibited Actions

  • Taking shortcuts and/or running off the track.
  • Do not throw any garbage onto the course.
  • Running with people who are not officially registered in the race as racers.
  • Cheating (e.g. using other means of transportation, using substitute runners)
  • Not carrying your bib with you.
  • Not abiding by the instructions given by official race staff
  • Continuing to run after the cut off times.
  • Doping and the use of prohibited drugs.
  • Sleeping along the course is prohibited. This may also mistakenly lead others to think that you require emergency medical assistance. Please manage your physical condition carefully and rest/sleep at the aid stations

Runners Responsibilities

  • You understand the unique nature and requirements of competing in an ultra-long distance running race. You will be running long hours and have undertaken the necessary training to compete in such a race.
  • You will be responsible for yourself and have the ability to deal with any problems that may be encountered during the race.
  • You are able to deal with, on your own without assistance, deteriorating weather conditions (raining, strong winds) and other troubles expected when traveling across road & hill.
  • You are able to deal with extreme fatigue, internal organ and digestive problems, muscle pain, mild physical injuries and psychological problems on your own.
  • You are fully aware that when participating in an outdoor activity such as this race, your safety depends on your own skills and abilities.

  • Race Bib must be visible front
  • No bib exchange or selling, Winners will be verified with the original IC copy of owner, with full mandatory items equipped.
  • Race Cancellation – Thunder Storm if announced by the race director
